The first monograph by Swedish artist Pia Ferm provides a comprehensive overview of both her marble sculptures and tufted tapestries. These are created from sketches and watercolor drawings, though their drawing origins remain visible in the hand-worked wool surfaces. The abstract patterns of these works are more reminiscent of paintings than of classic tapestries – thus the term “woven drawing” unquestionably fits Ferm’s distinctive works. The artist is concerned with breaking down genre boundaries: When does a work of art cross the status from sculpture to painting, or vice versa? In addition to extensive visual material, the monograph contains texts on the artist’s working methods.
